Come with me on a walk through the deciduous forest! Here we will find a temperate climate, great soil, various animals, and of course, deciduous trees that turn beautiful colors in the fall.

What Is a Deciduous Forest?

When drawing pictures of the seasons, what do you usually draw to show autumn? I bet you draw a tree with colorful leaves! This is a tree that can be found in a deciduous forest. Every fall, the leaves lose their green color and change to red, orange, or yellow before falling to the ground. Come with me on a trip into the deciduous forest!

Deciduous forests have leaves that turn bright colors in the autumn.

The deciduous forest can be found in many parts of the world. This forest is named for the deciduous trees that grow there. Deciduous trees are those that lose their leaves each year, usually during the fall. You can find a deciduous forest in the Eastern United States, Europe, Russia, China, and Japan. Let's take a walk through some of Earth's deciduous forests!

Deciduous Forest Climate

I hope you brought a sweater or jacket because the deciduous forest has an average temperature of 50°F. There are four seasons, with usually warm summers and cold winters. This forest is called temperate because of its mild temperatures. The temperatures are not extreme like other biomes in the world. This makes it a pretty nice place to live!

The deciduous forest gets between 30 and 60 inches of rain a year. This explains why there are so many plants growing here! The soil here is really rich from the leaves that fall and decay. Let's look closer at the plants and animals that live here. Follow me!
