Use this lesson plan to teach about and support your students' understanding of dental health. A text lesson guides students through a basic understanding of what dental hygiene is, why it's important, and how to take care of teeth. Apply learning to an activity.

Learning Objectives

After this lesson, students will be able to:

  • define 'dental hygiene'
  • explain why dental hygiene is important
  • demonstrate understanding of good brushing and flossing

  • Copies of the lesson Dental Hygiene Lesson for Kids: Facts & Tips, one for each student or a master copy to use as a shared reading
  • Egg cartons cut into four sections of three humps/two valleys each
  • Modeling dough
  • Tooth brushes
  • Dental floss
  • Watercolor paints and brushes
  • Chart paper and markers
  • Small cups of water
  • Paper towels
