  • Who is Greg? Use five descriptive words to describe him.
  • What does Greg do to pass the time in the beginning of the book? How does his Dad react to his hobby? How does his mom feel about it?
  • Is Greg and his family rich or poor? Use specific quotes from the book to support your answer.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Heffley require Greg to pay back Mr. Jefferson. Do you think they are justified in doing so? Why or why not?
  • Describe Greg's relationship with his brother. Do their parents treat them differently? Explain.
  • Greg has an upcoming birthday, what does he put on his birthday list? What does this say about his personality?
  • Greg appears to get himself in trouble throughout the book. Explain.
  • Who is Heather Hills? Does Greg like her as a friend, or does he have a crush on her?
  • Compare and contrast Greg and Rowley's relationship with their fathers. If you were a character in this book, who would you choose to be your father? Why?
  • What secret, and lie, did Grandpa hold from Mr. Heffley? How did this make Mr. Heffley feel? How does Mr. Heffley react?

The Adventures of Greg and Rowley

  • Describe Rowley's friendship with Greg in the beginning of the book. Do they remain friends throughout the entire book? Explain.
  • Why do Greg and Rowley need to get jobs? What options does Greg consider for repayment? How would you suggest they handle the situation?
  • Do you think Greg is a bad influence in his relationship with Rowley? Why or why not?
  • Mrs. Heffley and Mrs. Jefferson devise a plan to get Greg and Rowley back together. Describe the plan and explain what happens. Does everything go perfectly? Why or why not?
