Ecosystem Development Project Lesson Plan

Kerry has been a teacher and an administrator for more than twenty years. She has a Master of Education degree.

This lesson plan will help teachers develop an ecosystem project with their students. Students will create their own ecosystem and observe the interdependence that allows the ecosystem to thrive.

Learning Objectives

After completing these ecosystem projects, students will be able to:

  • Understand how an ecosystem works
  • Observe and record interdependence in an ecosystem

Length

90 minutes divided over several days

Curriculum Standards

  • NGSS. HS-LS2-6

Evaluate claims, evidence, and reasoning that the complex interactions in ecosystems maintain relatively consistent numbers and types of organisms in stable conditions, but changing conditions may result in a new ecosystem.
