Egyptian Art Lesson Plan

Dana teaches social sciences at the college level and English and psychology at the high school level. She has master's degrees in applied, clinical and community psychology.

What is unique about ancient Egyptian art and how was it used to represent the culture? This lesson plan uses a video lesson to explain the history and significance of ancient Egyptian art. An activity asks students to create a painting in the style of the ancient Egyptians.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • list key characteristics of ancient Egyptian art
  • discuss the common elements and themes featured in ancient Egyptian art
  • describe the different periods of time that divide ancient Egyptian art

Materials

  • Assorted images featuring ancient Egyptian art
  • A worksheet created using the quiz from the associated text lesson, one for each student
  • Heavyweight white paper
  • Acrylic paints in red, black, blue, green and gold
  • Paintbrushes
