Environmental Stewardship Lesson Plan

This lesson plan guides students to understand the concept of environmental stewardship. Class discussion and a brief worksheet assist with knowledge acquisition while a role-playing activity allows students to apply their knowledge.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify multiple methods of demonstrating environmental stewardship

Curriculum Standards


Introduce claim(s) and organize the reasons and evidence clearly.


Use words, phrases, and clauses to clarify the relationships among claim(s) and reasons.


Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 6 topics, texts, and issues, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly.


Warm-up Activity

  • Write the word 'STEWARDSHIP' on the board. Circle it.
  • Ask your students to write down their own definition for this word on their own paper. Have a volunteer read his/her answer. Guide students until a correct definition of stewardship has been establish.
  • Ask your students to tell you ways in which a person can be a good steward of things (for example, 'take care of it' or 'don't waste it'.) Write these examples on the board around the word.
  • When the board is full or your students have nothing more to offer, ask them to copy the board onto their own paper.
  • Read the 'Introduction' section of the text lesson to your students.
