Environmental Toxicants Lesson Plan

Toxicants are everywhere in our environment. Your students are going to learn about environmental toxicants as they watch a video, create toxicant awareness posters and take a quiz.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • define environmental toxicants
  • identify sources of toxicants
  • explain the types of toxicants

  • HS-LS2-7

Design, evaluate, and refine a solution for reducing the impacts of human activities on the environment and biodiversity.

  • HS-LS2-8.

Evaluate evidence for the role of group behavior on individual and species' chances to survive and reproduce.

  • HS-LS4-6.

Create or revise a simulation to test a solution to mitigate adverse impacts of human activity on biodiversity.


  • Computer with projector
  • Copies of the lesson quiz
  • Poster boards
  • Markers
  • Index cards with the name of a different type of environmental toxicant on each one (enough for each group, more than one group can do the same type if your class is large)
