ESL Canadian History Lesson Plan

Instructor: Mary Beth Burns

Mary Beth has taught 1st, 4th and 5th grade and has a specialist degree in Educational Leadership. She is currently an assistant principal.

In this lesson plan, ESL students will learn about important events in Canada's history. After a collaborative discussion involving a graphic organizer, students will participate in a wax museum.

Learning Objectives

  • Engage in conversation about the significance major events that took place in Canadian history
  • Explain the key details of a particular historical Canadian event

Report on a topic or text or present an opinion, sequencing ideas logically and using appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details to support main ideas or themes; speak clearly at an understandable pace.

    • Viking Leif Erikson on his boat
    • John Cabot on his boat
    • French and Indian War
    • Canadian Pacific railroad
    • British North America Act of 1867
    • Canadian flag
    • World's Fair in Montreal
    • 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver
  • Blank timeline graphic organizer
  • Crayons
  • World map
