This classroom decoration set of ideas provides you with a guide on using images and text in a way that will be appealing to students. The decoration ideas aim at getting your students engaged into the English language.

Love the Culture

One of the theories of language learning assures that those students who feel engaged by the culture that is attached to a language are more prone to learning it. This contrasts with students who are forced to take a language just because it is part of an academic plan or as a requirement to pass a test.

Based on this, many ESL teachers choose to decorate their classroom with content that appeals to students not only because of the visual impact images have, but because of what students can actually feel when they see a certain type of decoration in the classroom.

There are two aspects of decoration that are the most important. First, the quality of the decoration you choose for your ESL classroom matters because good quality materials give students a sense of comfort in the learning environment. The comfort relies on the aesthetic aspect of the decoration. Second, the content you choose is important because it would ideally appeal to your students based on their age, background, personal interests, etc.

Regarding content, it is necessary to remember that there are cultural aspects of the English speaking world that can appeal to students regardless of their age, background, or personal interests. For example, a site of interest such as the Statue of Liberty or Big Ben can serve as decoration if stunning images are used along with interesting facts about those sites.

Now let's look at some ideas that include both the quality of materials and content when decorating an ESL classroom
