ESL Presentation Skills Lesson Plan

Kandi has degrees in Communications, Human Services, Education and Computer Science. She is a Business, Marketing, and Technology instructor with a Master's degree in Education.

This lesson focuses on introducing key concepts concerning presentation skills for ESL students. Multiple activities are included to engage all learning styles.

Learning Objectives

Students will be able to do the following:

  • Define skills that are important in presentations
  • Identify positive presentation skills in others
  • Implement strong presentation skills personally
  • Recognize cultural differences in presentation characteristics

1 to 2 hours

Materials

  • Handouts listing vocabulary words, one per student
  • Three or more videos of people doing public speaking presentations
  • Rubric using vocabulary words as areas of focus, one per student
  • Index cards
  • Video recorder (needed for Extension only)
