Exercise is very important for your health, but it doesn't always mean you have to hit the gym! Exercise can include a lot of activities you do every day. Learn more about why exercise is so important, at any age.

What Is Exercise?

What do you picture when you hear the word exercise? Someone lifting heavy weights in a gym? Perhaps someone running around a track? It is true that these are both examples of exercise, but exercise can be so much more! Exercise is any activity that requires some sort of physical effort of your body. Exercise is very important for your health and should be done daily!

Benefits of Exercise

Exercise has many benefits for the health of your body. You will build strong bones, muscles, and joints. Not only will you become stronger, but you will be less likely to get obese, have diabetes, or have high blood pressure. Kids who exercise are also usually a lot happier and get a better night's rest! It is important to try to get at least thirty to sixty minutes of exercise each day. Luckily, exercise can be a lot of fun! Let's learn more about the types of exercise.

Types of Exercise

Most adults exercise by going to the gym to lift weights or heading out for a run around the neighborhood. As a kid, exercise doesn't look the same. You can get exercise through a lot of fun activities, like playing soccer in the backyard, skateboarding with friends, or even dancing to your favorite song! Exercise can be broken down into three main types:

Endurance

Endurance activities are those that get your heart beating fast! Sometimes they are called aerobic activities. These are things like running, swimming, or riding your bike. Doing regular endurance exercise will make your heart and lungs stronger. This will let you run further without feeling like your lungs will explode!
