Fall of the Soviet Union Lesson Plan

What led to the fall of the Soviet Union? This lesson plan uses a video lesson to explain the political and social factors that contributed to the fall of the Soviet Union. An activity engages students with the task of analysis.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • outline the events that led to the fall of the Soviet Union
  • summarize the Soviet-era leadership of Joseph Stalin and Mikhail Gorbachev
  • discuss the changes that the fall of the Soviet Union brought to citizens
