Día del Padre (Father's Day)

María is about to give a corbata (tie) to her dad for Día del Padre (Father's Day). Along with the gift, she is going to hand her dad a letter. She wants to let her dad know how much she loves him, how important he is to her, and wish him a happy day. Let's follow her process.

Translation: Happy Fathers Day!
dad daughter

  • Te quiero mucho, para mí eres el mejor papá del mundo. (I love you very much, for me you're the best Dad in the world.)

A Father's Day Letter

Let's think about how María will craft her letter.

The first line would have to be Querido papá (Dear Dad). Notice that papá is not capitalized.

If she wanted to mention the tie in the letter then she would say te compré un regalo (I bought you a gift), or to be more specific te compré una corbata (I bought you a tie). Notice that compré is the past tense of the verb comprar (to buy).

Somewhere in big letters she could write ¡Feliz Día del Padre! (Happy Father's Day!).

Traits Vocabulary

To show just how important her dad is to her, she could mention some of her dad's best qualities. Let's take a look at some of the words she could use:

Spanish Phrase Pronunciation Translation
valiente BAH-lay-en-teh brave
trabajador trah-bah-ha-DORE hard worker
cariñoso kah-ree-NYO-so caring
