Flapper Lesson Plan

Instructor: Dana Dance-Schissel

Dana teaches social sciences at the college level and English and psychology at the high school level. She has master's degrees in applied, clinical and community psychology.

What is a flapper and what was their role in the culture of the 1920s? This lesson plan uses an engaging text lesson to connect students to the phenomenon of the flapper and an activity that allows students to create their own version of a flapper.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • define 'flapper'
  • list the key characteristics of the 1920s flapper
  • explain the evolution of the flapper
