Fraction Project Ideas for 6th Grade

Instructor: Bethany Calderwood

Bethany has taught special education in grades PK-5 and has a master's degree in special education.

From the time they are introduced in elementary school, fractions are an integral part of math and science. These projects help sixth graders enhance their fraction skills through teaching, creating interactive activities, and finding fraction use in real life.

Fractions Again?

Why should sixth graders work on fractions again? A solid understanding of fractions is fundamental to the study of higher math and sciences. Students in middle and high school will encounter fractions as part of numerous formulas, and they need to navigate them with ease. As students reach sixth grade, they have already spent considerable time learning how to manipulate fractions. This makes it an ideal time to challenge and stretch that knowledge using creative projects with real life applications.
