George Washington Carver is one of the key characters students enjoy learning about from African American history. This lesson offers some ideas for projects that will motivate students to learn about Carver's life and work.

Why George Washington Carver Projects?

If you are teaching your students about the late 19th century, or about African American history, you might want to spend some time focusing on the fascinating life and works of George Washington Carver. Carver was an inventor as well as an expert botanist, and his work with crops helped many poor farmers figure out ways to feed themselves and their families. Carver was an early environmentalist who was born in slavery and worked his way up to fame. To help students really appreciate Carver's legacy, it can be a great idea to get them engaged in projects. The projects in this lesson are designed to access a variety of learning styles, so that students can get excited about Carver regardless of their individual strengths.
