    • What do you notice about this music?
    • What type of music is this?
    • What instruments do you hear?
    • Has anyone had any experience with operas?
  • Give students paper and colored pencils and ask them to draw what they 'see' when they listen to the opera music, then share their ideas with their partner.
  • Set aside the drawings for later and tell students they will be learning about a composer named Giuseppe Verdi.
  • Prepare for note-taking by having students create a page in their notebooks titled 'Giuseppe Verdi' with a three-column chart labeled 'Key Facts,' 'Details,' and 'Questions/Comments.'
