Grandparents Day Activities for Kids

Celebrating grandparents can be fun for students of all ages. There are many ways that students can be encouraged to celebrate, including activities that can be done both with and for their grandparents.

Grandparents Day

Grandparents Day is a special time for students to celebrate their grandparents (whether they are able to get together for a visit or not). By providing students with various activities to do with and for their grandparents, teachers can help to bring extra meaning to this very special day. The following activities have been designed with Grandparents Day in mind. Some have been created for students to do with a grandparent while others are meant to be completed for a grandparent (as a gift, perhaps).

Activities To Do With a Grandparent

Create a Family Tree

Materials: poster board or large pieces of construction paper, markers

  • Along with their grandparent, encourage students to create a family tree representing their immediate family members as well as any extended family that the grandparent might want to contribute.
  • Have students begin by drawing a tree onto poster board or a large piece of construction paper. Instruct students to put their own names in the trunk of the tree as the bottom part of the family tree. Then, with the help of a grandparent, have the student create branches and write in the names of family members where appropriate.

Interview a Grandparent

Materials: writing paper, pencil
