Green Revolution Lesson Plan

The Green Revolution was an exciting time in our history where agriculture and crop production increased dramatically. In this lesson plan, students will learn about the Green Revolution and develop a presentation to share what they know.

Learning Objectives

By the conclusion of this lesson, students will:

  • Explain the Green Revolution
  • Create a presentation sharing information about the Green Revolution

Materials

Instructions

  • Begin by talking about the word revolution and its meaning.
  • Ask what students might know about famous revolutions (such as the American Revolution or the Industrial Revolution).
  • Show the video lesson, What Is the Green Revolution? - Definition, Benefits, and Issues.
    • After ''What is the Green Revolution,'' define the terms:
      • Green Revolution
      • High yield crops
      • Multiple cropping
      • Fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides
    • After ''Benefits of the Green Revolution,'' discuss:
      • Who was Norman Borlaug?
      • What were some of the benefits of the Green Revolution?
    • After ''Issues With the Green Revolution,' discuss:
      • What were some of the issues with the Green Revolution?
      • Do you feel the benefits outweighed the issues? Why or why not?
    • Go through the ''Lesson Summary'' and ''Learning Outcomes'' carefully and discuss. Answer any questions students might have.
  • Check for understanding by administering the quiz.
