  • Tell students they will be learning about the season of autumn, or fall, and what happens during this season. Share prior knowledge.
  • Distribute the lesson Autumn Facts: Lesson for Kids to each student.
  • Have students read the first section 'Autumn' to themselves, then ask:
    • What things happen in autumn?
    • What types of things happen in our community in autumn?
    • What are some unique characteristics of autumn, such as weather, events, etc.?
  • Now read 'The Autumnal Equinox' together as a class. Discuss:
    • What happens on the autumnal equinox?
    • When does the autumnal equinox happen?
    • Why is the autumnal equinox important?
    • Why don't people who live near the Equator have autumn? Would you like that?
  • Have students label their notebooks three sections or pages 'Plants,' 'Animals,' and 'People.' Instruct them to record information as they read the next sections that explains how each of these groups prepares for and changes during autumn.
  • Instruct students to read these sections, taking notes as they do. Pull students who may need extra help to work in a small group with you.
