Health Science Projects for High School

Instructor: David Wood

David has taught Honors Physics, AP Physics, IB Physics and general science courses. He has a Masters in Education, and a Bachelors in Physics.

Taking a health science class can give students great knowledge that will set them up for a healthy life and even prepare them to get involved in the field themselves. Check out some of these fun health science projects students can complete at a high school level.

High School Health Science Projects

The more we understand about the human body and how to maintain human health, the better we are at promoting long and pleasant lives for all humans. It's not only doctors who need to know about health science. The more we individual humans learn, the more we are able to make better decisions in our lives to maintain good health.

A health science project can be a great way to engage students in learning about how the human body works, and how they can maintain good health. This can be an important investment for the remainder of their lives. In this lesson, we're going to provide a few ideas for health science projects that would be appropriate for the high school classroom. Why not try these for yourself?

Public Service Announcement Project

There are many lessons, tips, and tricks to maintaining good health people mostly don't think about. By putting students into project groups, we can give each group a different topic to research and have them present those topics to the class. This allows our students to benefit from a wide range of tips and information.

For example, one group might be involved in researching hygiene techniques like washing hands, or what to do when coughing and sneezing. Another group might talk about little-known nutrition tips. Yet another group might deal with stress management, and another about how to get the proper amount of exercise. Students can even study toxic chemicals that are common in homes but considered potentially dangerous. Altogether students will learn a lot about maintaining good health.

Dietary Analysis Project

This project is a classic - an opportunity for students to complete a full dietary analysis. Students start by using a nutrition Journal, keeping track of everything they eat. Then, they can go through the process of analyzing what nutrients are found in those foods, and making a summary of what nutrients they ingested over the course of a week or a month. Through this process, students will realize where they are strong and where they are weak, and how they can improve their diet to give their body what it really needs.
