Hey, Little Ant Discussion Questions

Instructor: Maria Airth

Maria has a Doctorate of Education and over 15 years of experience teaching psychology and math related courses at the university level.

Young elementary level students will consider social issues such as bullying, peer pressure and stealing. They will observe the interactions between a boy and an ant and as a class discuss the deep meanings behind the story.

Why Discuss 'Hey, Little Ant'?

Phillip and Hannah Hoose's book Hey, Little Ant is a wonderful story of social behavior. Your young students may just see it as a cute story about an ant trying not to be stepped on by a boy, but the underlying themes of social relationship and obligation are strong.

These discussion questions will allow your young elementary students to think deeply about the social aspects brought up in the story. Questions related to comprehension are included to use as best suits your needs.
