Prior to class, type each character identifier on a presentation slide and the name of the character on another slide. During class, divide the students into two groups. Explain that they are going to identify character traits and quotes in Holes. Each team will receive 10 points for the correct answer, but lose 10 points if they answer incorrectly. If Team A loses 10 points, Team B can steal, but if Team B answers incorrectly, they will receive a new question, but will not lose 10 points. Let students know, their score can go negative, which enhances the excitement of the game.
