How Senior Management Develops Positive Relationships with Employees

Instructor: Beth Hendricks

Beth holds a master's degree in integrated marketing communications, and has worked in journalism and marketing throughout her career.

Building rapport between employees and management can strengthen an organization. In this lesson, you'll find some strategies for increasing trust and building relationships that will benefit your business.

Confidence and Trust in the Workplace

How many employees do you think have confidence in their company's leadership? 100 percent? 70 percent? How about 44 percent?

That's right, only 44 percent of employed people surveyed said they have confidence in their company's leadership, according to a recent Oracle HCM survey. Where there is a lack of confidence, there is also a lack of trust. And where trust suffers, so too does employee morale, engagement, and productivity.

So, how can employees and managers turn things around? The key is in building relationships that create positive working environments and build trust in organizations. It's not enough for Sara and Beth (who work in the same department) to build a solid relationship, it must also happen between Sara, Beth, and Justin (their manager).

Building relationships of trust and rapport from senior management to front-line employees can have numerous benefits for a business including better job satisfaction, enhanced collaboration and cooperation, productive and engaged workers, and better overall business performance. So, it's time to get to work developing positive relationships with your employees. But, how?

Strategies for Building Rapport

Just like in your personal relationships, trust and confidence don't happen overnight. They take work and a conscious effort. Here are some strategies you can use in working to build beneficial relationships in your workplace.
