How to Create a Plan for Social Media Content

Instructor: Beth Hendricks

Beth holds a master's degree in integrated marketing communications, and has worked in journalism and marketing throughout her career.

Content planning is a bit like a roadmap for your social media presence. In this lesson, you'll find a checklist for ensuring that you are creating a goal-oriented and customer-focused social media content strategy.

Planning Ahead

Imagine you were headed out on a road trip. You've packed your suitcase, pulled together some snacks and you're loading up the car. Your road trip buddy gets behind the wheel and you prepare to pull away from the curb.

There's only one problem: You don't know where you're going! Neither of you has created an itinerary or checked any maps so you have no ideas how to get where you want to go.

Social media strategy, if not planned out, can be a lot like navigating a road trip without a map. You simply don't have any idea about where you're going or how to get there. That's where a social media content plan can help. It can help you clarify your goals, create more engaging content and better understand your audience.

In this lesson, we're putting together a checklist of things you need to consider before diving into the world of social media. See how many of these you've already covered and look for areas that may need some reinforcement.

Social Media Content Strategy

The world of social media is vast and varied. Having a roadmap of sorts to tackle it will help you get the best results. Here are the steps you need to incorporate into your social media content plan.
