In order to convert from one unit to another, we multiply by the conversion factor. The conversion factor is the ratio of the units set up as a fraction. The unit that we are converting to should be in the numerator. For example, when converting miles to feet, feet should be in the numerator of the fraction and miles should be in the denominator.

The following equivalent units can be used to convert miles to kilometers.

1 mile = 5,280 feet
1 meter = 3.28 feet
1 kilometer = 1,000 meters
