Instructor: LeRon Haire
The lesson will discuss how to identify career trends, along with the many outlets and forums that can be used such as online sources and career centers.

Finding a Job

At some point in your life, many of you have experienced the agony of searching for job opportunities. It can be a headache for many reasons. One of them is knowing where to begin. That question can be answered in three words: identifying career trends. A career trend can be defined as the fastest growing industries that hold the best opportunities for potential employees.

For example, let's assume that you work in the IT field and are searching for jobs that work around your busy schedule. After visiting with a professional in the IT industry, you learn that independent IT consulting has become one of the newest career trends for those in IT looking to make money on their own schedule. How can you go about locating career trends to help you with landing a job? Let's take a look at a few career information sources that can help you with this.

Career Services Center

In many of today's colleges and universities, there are career centers set up to help students find temporary and part-time jobs, with many being in their particular major. Due to the uniqueness of their position, career center employees are often well able to identify current job trends in the area. Many local businesses and organizations make it a point to partner with the career centers to provide job vacancy information, which can be directly accessed by students that enter the career center.

Employment Agency

Employment agencies are hired by organizations to find qualified people to fill the organization's job vacancies. Similar to a college or university's career center partnering with an outside organization, employment agencies also have direct career trend information at their fingertips thanks to their relationship with these organizations.

Informative Sessions and Seminars

Another way that job seekers can get information about career trends is through informative sessions and seminars. These seminars are often held by subject matter experts, who can provide the most up-to-date information on identifying trends in the market. They can be held in various places such as schools, churches, libraries, and many other types of local organizations.

Online sites are very useful for identifying career trends.
