You might think social media is just for parents to see pictures of their grandchildren or that websites are only for big corporations selling products. Not so! The benefits of internet marketing can be used by all different types of businesses. Doctors and dentists can use internet marketing to advertise, stay competitive, build a community, and even reduce fear associated with procedures.

Internet marketing includes the use of social media, email marketing, online ads, video apps, etc. to promote your business. Internet marketing can reach a global audience through promotion and communication and is essential if you want to stay competitive in your field.

Doctors and dentists can use internet marketing to build their brand, gain trust, create a community, get feedback from customers, and advertise. There are different ways of going about it, so let's go over some strategies here.

Create a Website

It is essential to have a website that people can visit to learn valuable information about your practice. Whether you're a doctor or a dentist, it is helpful to have a website that:

  • has your location and hours of operation
  • lists all the services available
  • lists types of insurance accepted
  • has contact information

This way, customers will have a convenient way to gain simple information, and not bog down your phone lines or go to someone else!

Another good feature would be to have a scheduling program that allows customers to schedule their own appointments online. Also, a brief bio of the dentists or doctors at the practice can help customers relate to their potential caregivers and ease their shyness. Include an image of the person, and add legitimacy to each practitioner by listing their credentials.

Websites should include testimonials from patients. This allows potential customers to know how others feel about the company and provides a positive image.

At the bottom of the page, the company should also have links to their social media pages for customers to view and follow. This helps create more brand awareness through various channels.

Social Media

Utilizing social media is a great way to communicate with customers. Social media includes various programs or apps that can be used for advertising, but also to build community among a network of people. Examples of social media platforms are Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.

These can remind consumers of basic info and advertise promotions, but mainly it should be used to humanize your business and be a positive force in the community. Give tips for general health, offer relevant and useful information, or ask questions. Customers should know that you genuinely care about them and are interested in general health, and are not just out to make a buck.

For instance, a dentist can use Facebook to give tips on how to properly brush your teeth or how often to floss. A doctor could use Twitter to tweet some easy ways to maintain health through exercise, or ways to eat healthy.

Dentists and doctors can also build a profile on LinkedIn, which connects business professionals. Here you can find others in your field, even look for potential employees, or connect and cross promote other companies (toothbrush makers, nutritionists, etc.). Again, an image and a list of credentials makes your company seem transparent, professional, and up to date with current trends. Building trust is a very important aspect of business, especially when customers are trusting you with their health!

Even the image sharing platform Instagram can help doctors or dentists. You're trying to draw customers to you, to make them want to come into your office. Providing a positive brand image with pictures of happy people or things of interest can help.
