IRS Lesson Plan

Instructor: Mary Beth Burns

Mary Beth has taught 1st, 4th and 5th grade and has a specialist degree in Educational Leadership. She is currently an assistant principal.

In this lesson plan, students will learn about the IRS. While reading an informational text, they will have collaborative discussions. At the end of the lesson, students will engage in a variety of performance tasks.

Lesson Objectives

Upon completion, students will be able to:

  • Summarize an informational text about the IRS
  • Understand the history of the IRS
  • Explain the roles and responsibilities of the IRS

Curriculum Standards

  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.7.1

Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 7 topics, texts, and issues, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly.

  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.7.7

Conduct short research projects to answer a question, drawing on several sources and generating additional related, focused questions for further research and investigation.
