Jail Lesson Plan

What are jails and what role do they play in our society? This lesson plan uses a video lesson to outline critical facts about jails. An activity connects students with life in jail.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • define 'jail'
  • distinguish between jail and prison
  • explain the role of jails in society

Materials

  • A worksheet created using the quiz
  • Photocopies of inmate rules and regulations for a local jail. These are typically published on the Internet. If you do not have a jail in your area, or are unable to find one for your jail, feel free to use a copy from another locale.
  • Paper
  • Markers
