James Is Unhappy

  • What happened to James' parents? Where were they when the tragic event occurred? Be specific. Who does he live with now?
  • Why do you believe James' new guardians are abusive? List at least three things they make him do?
  • James' new guardians never call him by his real name. What do they call him? How does this make him feel?
  • Why does James leave home?
  • Who does James find hiding in the bushes and what does this person give him?
  • At the beginning of the book, James is unhappy. Explain.
