Keyboarding Lesson Plan

Sharon has a Masters of Science in Mathematics

Teach students important keyboarding skills such as proper posture and hand placement using this lesson plan. Guided and independent practice follows an informative reading passage.

Learning Objectives

After this lesson, students will be able to:

  • explain why keyboarding skills are important
  • discuss and display proper keyboarding posture
  • demonstrate understanding of hand and finger placement for proper keyboarding


  • 45 minutes for guided lesson
  • Time for students to practice independently


  • Copies of the lesson How to Learn How to Type, one for each student as well as a master copy
  • Keyboards for student practice, or paper/pencil to create keyboard surface
  • Computer access for the activity
