Knife Safety Lesson Plan

Mary Beth has taught 1st, 4th and 5th grade and has a specialist degree in Educational Leadership. She is currently an assistant principal.

Use this lesson plan as a way to get your students talking about knife safety. They will read about knife safety in an informational text and then use what they have learned to create a unique invention.

Lesson Objectives

Upon completion, students should be able to:

  • Explain the do's and don'ts of knife safety
  • Summarize an informational text about knife safety
  • Engage in collaborative discussion about knife safety

Curriculum Standards

  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.4.2

Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details; summarize the text.

  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.4.3

Explain events, procedures, ideas, or concepts in a historical, scientific, or technical text, including what happened and why, based on specific information in the text.

  • CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.4.1.d

Review the key ideas expressed and explain their own ideas and understanding in light of the discussion.
