Mesopotamia was a fascinating area of the world and home to many human civilizations. Help students learn about ancient Mesopotamia and its civilizations with these games and activities.

Mesopotamia Activities & Games

Mesopotamia was an area surrounding the Tigris-Euphrates River system which was home to many ancient civilizations, including the Assyrian and Babylonian Empires. It's considered to be one of the cradles of civilization due in large part to the land's fertility. It's an important site in human history that's well worth studying, and there's a lot to learn about Mesopotamian civilization. In this lesson, we'll go through a number of possible activities and games that you could use to help you teach about this area of the ancient world.

Gods & Legends Activity

Mesopotamia was a land of many gods, legends, myths, and stories. Exploring these can give great insight into the thinking and lives of the people who believed in them. For example, since water was such a crucial part of the civilization, with flooding and drought bringing both strife and increased fertility, it shouldn't be surprising to learn that water gods were common. For this activity, assign each student or pair of students with a different god or legend, have them research it, and then take turns to teach the class about what they've discovered in the form of five minutes mini-lessons/presentations.
