Mexican Independence Lesson Plan

The Mexican War of Independence was an important time in history for all of Latin America. This lesson includes a timeline project, discussion questions, a quiz and a lesson extension to further enhance their understanding of Mexican Independence.

Learning Objectives

After this lesson students will be able to:

  • identify important leaders during this era
  • analyze the cultural impact of the Mexican War of Independence
  • create a timeline of pre- and post-war events

Length

  • 1.5 to 2 hours, including activity

Materials

  • 22 x 28 poster boards, one for each student (or a roll of butcher paper that can be cut to length)
  • Crayons or markers
  • Copies of the quiz, one for each student
  • Copies of the Latin American map
