Morphemes Lesson Plan

This lesson plan can be used to teach student about morphemes. Students will watch a video lesson, discuss content, play a game, then take a quiz and do an application activity.

Learning Objectives

After this lesson, students will be able to:

  • define 'morpheme'
  • explain the types of morphemes
  • provide examples of morphemes and identify the type of each

Warm-Up and Preparation

  • Write the following sentences on the board:
    • The bird-like man hardly touched his food at dinner.
    • It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.
    • Unless you sow the seed, the plant will never grow.
  • Ask students to record sentences, and identify parts of speech for each word.
  • When finished, combine students into partner pairs to review their work, adjusting content as necessary.
  • Share answers as a whole group, reviewing content and discussing answers.
