Instructor: Christopher Muscato

Chris has a master's degree in history and teaches at the University of Northern Colorado.

These questions are designed to help guide your class through a discussion on the themes and structure of Karen Foxlee's ''Ophelia and the Marvelous Boy''.

Ophelia and the Marvelous Boy

Karen Foxlee's Ophelia and the Marvelous Boy is a fantastical tale of adventure and mystery set in a Northern-European museum. Following the loss of her mother, Ophelia encounters a boy magically trapped in the museum by the Snow Queen. Combining elements of traditional folklore (notably Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen) with a modern setting, this book is a fun read recommended for students from grades 3-7. The following discussion questions can help your students gain a deeper understanding of the book and its themes. It can be easily adapted to fit different grades.
