Personal Identity Lesson Plan

Dana teaches social sciences at the college level and English and psychology at the high school level. She has master's degrees in applied, clinical and community psychology.

What is personal identity and what factors influence its development? This lesson plan uses a video lesson to introduce and explain this concept. An activity gives students a chance to analyze and represent their unique identities.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • define 'personal identity'
  • list the factors that influence the development of personal identity
  • discuss several popular theories regarding identity development

  • Paper copies of the worksheet from the associated video lesson
  • Large sheets of poster board, cut into quarters
  • Old magazines
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Markers
