Playground Safety Lesson Plan

Josh has taught Earth Science and Physical Science at the High School level and holds a Master of Education degree from UNC-Chapel Hill.

Use this lesson plan to introduce the idea of playground safety to your students. Students will listen to an article, discuss strategies for staying safe on the playground with peers, and put these ideas into practice.

Learning Objectives

After this lesson, students will be able to:

  • describe various ways to stay safe on the playground
  • describe actions and activities that can lead to injury on the playground

30-60 minutes

Come to discussions prepared, having read or studied required material; explicitly draw on that preparation and other information known about the topic to explore ideas under discussion.

Instructions

NOTE: As stated below, this lesson could work best if it leads directly into recess. Additionally, it would probably be a great refresher for students in the beginning of the year.
