In the 21st century, business opportunities exist around the globe. In this scenario you will apply your understanding of the various benefits and advantages that can come with international expansion.

Scenario

Say Modern Home Insurance Company provides insurance coverage to homeowners for major appliances and home systems like heaters and air conditioners. They currently operate throughout the United States.

For only a $75 service fee, policyholders can have covered items repaired, or if necessary, replaced when something goes wrong. The company dominates this segment of the insurance market in the United States. They employ people in multiple offices to handle customer claims and offer customer service in English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Cantonese.

They pride themselves on being good corporate citizens, doing things such as offering free repair services in communities hit by natural disasters like flooding.

The Marketing Director, Juan, sees an opportunity to expand their business internationally. A growing middle class and increasing home ownership around the world suggests to him that expanding internationally could bring some major benefits to the company. Before exploring his idea further, he needs to present it to the Board of Directors to get funding to do some market studies.

Application

Juan decides that the best approach for developing his presentation is to identify and focus on the various benefits that can come with international expansion.

Using the chart below and information from the lesson The Benefits of International Expansion, consider the different ways that Juan's company might benefit from international expansion.
