A business networking plan will help you get started connecting with people. Use these questions to create a plan to apply the networking skills you've learned and cultivate your own business network.

Business Networking

Successful professionals understand the value of building relationships and having connections to reach out to when you need help or need to solve an issue. Networking is the practice of meeting other people who have similar careers, goals, or interests and building relationship with them.

For instance, if you are a real estate agent, you will want to network with other agents, as well as mortgage brokers, insurance agents, and home inspectors. The purpose of networking is to create mutually beneficial relationships that help both parties reach their career and personal goals.

Networking Goals

Before you network, you must understand your goals and have a clear vision of where you want your career to go. Take time to ask yourself some basic questions.

  • What do you want from your career in one, three, and five years?
  • What are your networking goals that will help you reach your career plans?
  • What types of people/businesses do you want to establish relationships with?
  • Who are five people you can start networking with in the next month?
  • How will you meet these people?
  • What are similar or support-type businesses that could be helpful?
  • How can you reach individuals and build a relationship that serves you both?
