Strategic planning is an important step to having a successful organization. Using a strategic planning checklist can help you capture all the relevant questions and their answers.

Strategic Planning Checklist

If you were to glance inside the cockpit of a commercial airliner, you'd likely find a giant binder. Believe it or not, inside that antiquated-looking mass of paperwork is a powerful tool that can help pilots make good decisions while flying. That tool is a simple checklist. There is a checklist for almost everything. Even very routine tasks are checklist-controlled, like take-off and landing. If you're wondering why, the answer is to avoid 'tunnel vision'.

Just like pilots work through their checklists hundreds of times in their careers, they are mandated to use them each and every time as a defense against a careless oversight or error. A business's strategic planning checklist serves this same purpose. Specifically, it helps keep business leaders from overlooking important parts of the strategic planning process. Using the checklist is a great idea because it guides an organization from where it is now to where it wants to be in the future.

Does your organization currently use a strategic planning checklist? If so, what are the contents? If not, should you create one? Check out this lesson if you need to review: What Is the Strategic Planning Process? - Model, Steps & Examples.
