Does the phrase Pythagorean theorem strike fear into the hearts of your students? The projects offered here will help your students lose that fear through familiarity. The projects can be completed independently or collaboratively.

Projects Related to the Pythagorean Theorem

'Pythagorean theorem' is a term that can cause the strongest of math students to quake. The Greek origin and the seemingly complex calculations can cause students to freeze with anxiety. This doesn't have to be the case, though. When students have a deep understanding of the process, they will realize just how simple and straight forward the calculation is.

An effective way to encourage students to engage with the theorem is to have them participate in projects related to it. The project ideas listed here will encourage your students to spend time really thinking about a concept and then use multiple steps to explain or show the concept in creative ways.

Teaching by showing is an effective method. In this project, your students will create an infographic to visually instruct viewers on the Pythagorean theorem.

  • Art supplies (art paper, markers/colored pencils/crayons)
