Renaissance Timeline Lesson Plan

Educate your students about the Renaissance timeline. They will view a video lesson about the Renaissance, complete their own timeline and skits about this important era, and have the chance to extend their knowledge.

Learning Objectives

After studying this lesson your students will be able to:

  • Describe the four overlapping eras of the Renaissance period
  • Name some of the major milestones of the time frame
  • Recap several of the wars and conflicts of the era

Length

1 - 1.5 Hours

Materials

  • Video lesson of The Renaissance Timeline: Events Overview
  • Paper to serve as timeline taped across the room
  • Markers and tape
  • Print outs of the major events from the lesson's timeline
  • Four copies of the the same lesson's text version.
  • Internet access
  • Copies of the lesson quiz

Evaluate various explanations for actions or events and determine which explanation best accords with textual evidence, acknowledging where the text leaves matters uncertain.

Instructions

  • Hand out pictures from the lesson along with tape and markers and let students know you will be completing your own timeline along with the video.
  • Start the video The Renaissance Timeline: Events Overview, and pause at each major event for students to update the class timeline.

Discussion Questions

a) Do you consider the Renaissance and the three related eras to be mostly positive or negative?

b) What one event stood out to you more than any other?

c) Was religion or war the dominant theme of the era?

d) How important was Gutenberg's printing press? Was it more or less important than the invention of the internet?

e) Can some of these events be viewed as positive or negative, depending on someone's point of view? If you believe so, which ones?
