With this lesson plan, your students are going to learn about the characters and plot of Irving's ''Rip Van Winkle.'' They will then apply this to their own creative writing.

Learning Objective

Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • Describe the plot and characters of Irving's ''Rip Van Winkle''
  • Define attributes of ''Rip Van Winkle'' that correspond to the Romantic period of American literature
  • Model their own creative writing on Washington Irving's work
