The savanna biome can be an exciting place and students of all ages will enjoy learning all about it. These projects ideas, including both individual and small group, will engage students while learning the different elements of the savanna biome.

The Savanna Biome

There is so much to know about the savanna biome. There are animals to study, plants to learn about, climate patterns to understand, and many other things that are unique to this part of the world. The following projects have been developed to help students deepen their understanding of the savanna biome and can be used and/or adapted for use with multiple age groups.

Slide Presentation

Materials: access to a program for building a slide presentation (PowerPoint or Google Slides, for example), access to research about the savanna biome

  • Put students into groups of 4 - 5.
  • Ask each group to gather information about the savanna biome such as:
    • Climate and weather
    • Vegetation of the savanna
    • Animals native to the savanna
    • Location of the savanna biome on the planet
    • Threats to the biome (to animals, to vegetation, etc.)
    • Anything else of interest
  • Next, instruct each group to develop an 8 - 10 slide presentation sharing their findings.
    • Students should make the slides visually appealing and limit the amount of information included on each (so as not to make the slides difficult to read or understand).
    • Students should include speaker notes or another method of indicating what would actually be said while presenting each slide.
    • Students should also be sure to include pictures and other items to add interest and impact.
  • When complete, allow each group class time to present their slides.
