Many schools are struggling for funding as support is increasingly cut. Fundraising is, therefore, becoming vital. Why not try some of these fundraising ideas to raise money for your school?

School Fundraising Ideas

These days schools are increasingly underfunded. Paying for larger projects and activities like field trips, school improvements, and expensive educational equipment can be virtually impossible. With funding increasingly cut, schools are forced to find ways to raise funds themselves or risk failure. Indeed, many schools have to complete fundraisers simply to maintain normal operations. In this climate, having a range of good ideas for fundraisers is all the more important. In this lesson, we'll provide you with some possibilities for how you can raise funds for your school.

School Events

One of the best ways for a school to raise funds is to run fun events for the community. These can be family events, nights out for parents, or functional events like car washes. Here are some ideas you can try:

  • Summer fair or carnival (including all kinds of games and activities)
  • Car Wash
  • Talent Show
  • Art Auction
  • Non-Uniform Day
  • Quiz Night
  • Breakfasts
  • Concerts
  • Cocktail Parties
  • School Plays
  • Community Walks or Sponsored Walks
  • Comedy Shows
  • Fashion Shows
  • Scavenger Hunts
  • World Food Event or Multicultural Fair
  • Karaoke Events
  • Movie Nights
  • Charity Auctions
  • Lectures from teachers available to parents
  • Finance courses for parents
  • Date night dinners for parents
  • Ballroom Dancing (either competitions or for fun)
  • Barbecues
  • Cooking Competitions

You can also run seasonal events like these:

  • Christmas Parties
  • Christmas Dinners
  • Tree Decoration Events
  • Halloween Haunted Houses
  • Easter Egg Hunts
  • Seasonal Crafting Workshops
  • Gift Wrapping Services
  • Holiday Products

Collections

There are many things that a community can collect to help raise funds for schools. For example, there are still box top programs that allow schools to get funding by having the community collect vouchers from products that can be found in every supermarket. Schools can also have the community collect spare change, or have a recycling collection in states where a certain amount of money is still offered for recycled goods. Donation drives can be backed by having companies (whether local or larger) match donations made by parents and other community members.

Products and Sales

Finally, schools can sell particular products in order to raise money. These products can be sold at school events, or year-round. Here are just a few to try:
