Math, science, English - what's your favorite school subject? In this lesson, we will walk the halls of a high school, learning some of the most common school subjects in Spanish.

What Are the School Subjects?

The first day of school - a day when students once again get settled into a routine and maybe even look forward to meeting their new teachers and seeing their class schedules. Meet Amanda and Olivia, two best friends back for their first day of school.

!Hola Olivia! ?Cómo estás? A mí no me gustan las clases. Mira... (Hi Olivia! How are you? I don't like my classes. Look...)

matemáticas, ciencias, lengua extranjera: francés alemán español, arte, educación física.

?Matemáticas y ciencias? !Qué horror! ?Cuál lengua extranjera vas a elegir, francés, alemán o español? (Math and science? How horrible! Which foreign language are you going to choose, French, German or Spanish?)

Probablemente elijo francés. Luego tengo arte y educación física. ?Qué tal tu horario? ?Cuáles son las clases que tienes tú? (I will probably choose French. Then I have art and physical education. How is your schedule? Which classes do you have?)

inglés, ciencias sociales, historia, geografía, música.

Inglés, historia y música son mis clases favoritas, pero no me gustan las ciencias sociales. Tampoco me gusta la geografía. (English, history and music are my favorite classes, but I don't like social studies. I don't like geography either.)

Tenemos que ir a clase. !Qué tengas un buen día! ('We have to go to class. Have a good day.')

Igualmente, !nos vemos mañana! ('You too, see you tomorrow.')

First Day of Classes - Part 1

Let's first watch Amanda as she goes from class to class on her first day of school.

La primera clase de Amanda es matemáticas. La profesora habla todo el tiempo de los números y Amanda se aburre. (Amanda's first class is math. The teacher talks the whole time about numbers, and Amanda gets bored.)

La clase de ciencias es más interesante. Los estudiantes hacen varios experimentos y trabajan en equipo. (Science class is more interesting. Students do various experiments and work in teams.)

Amanda puede elegir entre francés, alemán, y español (Amanda can choose between French, German and Spanish.) Ella elige francés y aprende decir 'Bon jour, je m'appelle Amanda.' (She chooses French and learns to say 'Good morning, my name is Amanda.')

En arte la profesora enseña técnicas diferentes de pintar, luego los estudiantes practican. (In art, the teacher teaches different painting techniques. Then the students practice.)
