Scorpions are arachnids and go through a life cycle like other arachnids. But do you know what that looks like? Most people just think of scorpions as creepy crawlers, but today we're going to learn some fun facts and all about their life cycle!

Different Life Cycles

All living things go through some sort of life cycle. You're probably familiar with the basic life cycle of mammals, like humans or cats: being born, growing into young mammals that resemble their parents, then becoming adult mammals. You're probably also familiar with the life cycle of insects that go through metamorphosis, like a butterfly: egg, larva, pupa, adult. The life cycles of mammals and insects are quite different because mammals always look like their parents, just smaller, while insects look nothing like their parents until they are in the adult stage. The life cycle of a scorpion is sort of like a mix between those two, and today we're going to learn all about it - so keep reading!

Scorpion Fun Facts

Did you know that scorpions are cousins to spiders and ticks? And did you know they've been around since the time of dinosaurs? Fossil records from around the world show evidence of this.

People are often scared of scorpions because they believe they can kill humans with their poison; however, while there are over 1,500 species of scorpions, only about 25 are actually capable of killing a human. That means your chances are pretty low! Also, scorpions can glow in the dark, when placed under a black light. How cool is that?
