So many children love fairies and stories about fairies! Encouraging this passion can be a great way to get children reading. This lesson provides a list of stories about fairies that will appeal to children.

Reading About Fairies

If you are trying to encourage a love for reading and fantasy in children, offering them stories about fairies can be a really good way to go. So many children are naturally interested in and even fascinated by the concept of fairies; fairy worlds and tales dovetail beautifully with children's vivid imaginations and desire to see more than meets the eye. When you offer a child a story about a fairy, you show them that you understand what is captivating them and take their interests and passions seriously. There are few better ways to get a child to keep on reading! The stories in this lesson appeal to the interest in fairies you are probably finding in your children or students.

She has an inner struggle when it comes to complying with the fairy code in order to earn her much-desired wings; eventually, the Fairy Queen helps her find her own talents and strengths.

A Fairy Went A-Marketing by Rose Fyleman

This beautiful story will appeal to children's imaginations and desire to understand more about fairy worlds. A fairy goes to the market and finds various gifts from natural wonders. She sends them out into the world in order to do good. The story is told in rhyme and will especially appeal to young children who enjoy listening to verse.

Bloom by Doreen Cronin

This hilarious story tells about the Mud Fairy named Bloom who leaves too much dirt everywhere, and people in the fairy kingdom get angry with her. Eventually, they discover that mud can actually come in handy for things like fixing the cracks in a glass castle. The story will appeal to kids who are struggling with feeling different and fitting in.

Alice the Fairy by David Shannon

In this story, Alice, a temporary fairy, uses her magic to get herself out of trouble. All the while, she is learning what she needs to know in order to become a permanent fairy. She has a number of misadventures that are sure to make readers laugh. Children with a tendency toward mischief and those who love a good laugh will especially enjoy this tale.
